SYNOPSIS
Comedy
2 men, 3 women
The hotel's current owner is getting ready for rededication of the hotel after adding some new floors. But he has to deal with an annoying aide, his ex-wife wanting to reconcile purely for the money, and, oh yeah, a fire.
TIMOTHY
Damn, you’re annoying at times, William!
WILLIAM
Yes, sir, I know.
TIMOTHY
What do you do for fun, William?
WILLIAM
Fun, sir?
TIMOTHY
You know, when you’re not groveling around me. What do you do then?
WILLIAM
Well, I eat mostly.
TIMOTHY
Apart from that.
WILLIAM
And I sleep.
TIMOTHY
Eat and sleep? That’s it?
WILLIAM
Well, I dream too.
TIMOTHY
Forget it. I don’t want to know.
WILLIAM
And I’ve got my beeper in case you need me while I’m eating or sleeping.
TIMOTHY
Have I ever beeped you, William?
WILLIAM
Not yet, sir.
TIMOTHY
Keep waiting.
(WILLIAM looks at his watch)
WILLIAM
It’s 11:30. Should I go up and tell the workers that their break is over?
TIMOTHY
Yes, go! By all means, go!
WILLIAM
Very well, sir.
(He turns and there is a knock at the hall door)
Shall I answer it, Mr. Ringfield?
TIMOTHY
Would it make a difference if I said “no?”
WILLIAM
Of course it would, sir. I won’t open the door if you don’t want me to open it.
TIMOTHY
Weren’t you on your way out, anyway?
WILLIAM
Yes, sir.
TIMOTHY
Then open the damn door!
WILLIAM
Right away, sir!
(He hurries over and opens the hall door, allowing SUSAN to enter. She is a well-to-do woman in her early seventies, wearing an expensive dress. She is covered in jewelry)
SUSAN
(Coming in)
It’s about time you opened that thing!
(TIMOTHY rises)
TIMOTHY
Mother! How are you?
(He hugs her and kisses her cheek)
SUSAN
Just fine, Timothy. Just fine. I’ve got good news for you.
TIMOTHY
I could use some.
WILLIAM
My news was good, sir.
TIMOTHY
You always seem to think so.
WILLIAM
(To SUSAN)
Is there anything you need brought in, Madame Ringfield?
SUSAN
(Coldly)
No, William.
WILLIAM
Very well, then.
(He starts to leave, then stops. To TIMOTHY)
Sir?
TIMOTHY
What now, William?
WILLIAM
Do you remember where I was going?
