SYNOPSIS
Comedy
2 men, 1 woman
A couple in a rut get help from an unexpected visitor.

MIKE
I don’t know, Sammy, it’s not the best time…

SAM
Oh, come on, Mike. I’m only here for a week. I won’t get in the way.

MIKE
I know, but me and Theresa…

SAM
Oh, yeah, Theresa! How is she?

MIKE
Well, right now she’s upset.

SAM
Oh, she’ll get over it. You guys have been through everything.

MIKE
Maybe, I don’t know. But the timing isn’t good.

SAM
You can’t send me out without a place to stay, Mike. It’s cold out there.

MIKE
(Considers for a moment)
Well… okay, how about this? You stay just long enough to find another hotel room. How about that?

SAM
Hey, that’s more than enough. Thanks, buddy. I’ll get my stuff.
(He exits through the front door. THERESA enters and heads for the kitchen)

THERESA
I’m just getting myself another water. I’m still not speaking to you.
(She exits into the kitchen)

MIKE
Hey honey, guess what?

THERESA
(From kitchen)
I said I’m not speaking to you.
(SAM reenters with a suitcase and a smaller bag)

SAM
Thanks again, man. I really appreciate this.

MIKE
Remember, though, it’s just until we find you a room.

SAM
I know. No problem.
(THERESA returns with her water)

THERESA
I’m going back to the bedroom. Don’t follow.
(She gets halfway there but stops when she sees SAM. A surprised smile comes to her face)
Sam? Sam Langford? Is that you?
(The surprised smile becomes a more genuine smile)

SAM
Wow! Theresa! You haven’t changed a bit!

THERESA
Aw, thanks, ya big liar. What are you doing here?

SAM
There’s a convention in town. Unfortunately, I find myself suddenly without a hotel room.

MIKE
We were just about to hit the phone book and start making some calls.

THERESA
No, no, don’t be ridiculous. Just stay here.

SAM
(Pleasantly surprised)
Really?

MIKE
(Shocked)
Really?

THERESA
Sure! We’ve got room for you.

SAM
Thanks!

MIKE
But Theresa, what about everything that’s been going on…

THERESA
(Happily, but with an edge)
Oh, come on, Mike! Be a little spontaneous!

SAM
I promise I won’t get in the way.

THERESA
Don’t worry about it. Our house is your house.

MIKE
Where will he sleep?

SAM
Oh, the couch will be fine.

THERESA
Sorry, that is all we have.

SAM
Please, I’m more than happy to use it. This will be great! The three of us, hanging out again. Just like back in high school.

MIKE
Yeah. Great. Um, Theresa, can I talk to you for a second?
